Three fleabitten and starving dogs, including one so weak she couldn't stand, were rescued by ASPCA officers from a Rockaway, Queens, house of horrors, and their owner was arrested on Nov 2 on charges of animal cruelty.
"They helped bring that dog back from the brink of death," ASPCA Special Agent Joseph Pentangelo said of the female pit bull. "She was in shock. Her body temperature didn't even register on the thermometer."
Humane law enforcement officers entered the filthy house in late October and saw a pitiful sight - the pit bull with one of her puppies by her side, sources said. An adult male dog also was rescued. A dead puppy was found in another room, sources said.
The female pit bull is on the mend, officials said.
Keidel Guy, 18, of Beach 67th St. was arrested by ASPCA Special Agent Omar Negrillo and charged with four counts of felony animal cruelty. He could face up to eight years in prison, if convicted. Wayne Robinson, 22, and Michael Surrency, 23, are accused of picking out their mark, who was traveling in the same A Train car on Friday, December 17, at about 1 p.m., according to charges brought by the District Attorney�s office.
Robinson and Surrency then allegedly conspired with Keidel Guy, 19, who was armed and waiting for his accomplices and the mark at the subway stop. The object of their desire: A cheap necklace and pendant, which they broke in their alleged attempt to steal. Records described the faux bling as �yellow metal.�
The victim, Anthony Battle, told police he heard Surrency instruct Guy to �Bring the thing,� via cell phone as the train approached the station.
Battle exited the train at the Beach 67 Street station with Surrency and Robinson lurking behind him. Guy met his accomplices on the platform and handed off an object to Surrency, who then accosted Battle from behind, armed with a handgun, Battle to told police.
�You know what this is. Give me your chain,� Surrency allegedly told Battle, who resisted. The panicky thugs screamed again for him to give up his chain and then grabbed him by the back of his jacket � tearing it off his body along with the necklace, which broke into pieces. Surrency, Robinson and Guy fled the station with the jacket.
A 100 Precinct Police officer spotted the three men on Beach Channel Drive and grabbed Guy, who had the jacket containing a piece of the shattered necklace. The handgun was not recovered, according to court records.
All three men are charged with first and second-degree robbery and criminal possession of stolen property. They were arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on December 18 where Judge James P. Griffin set bail for Guy and Robinson was at $15,000. Surrency�s bail was set at $35,000. They are all due back in court on January 22. | Source: Rockaway News - December 24, 2004
