Community leaders are warning people in one neighborhood to keep a close eye on their pets after a dog was found killed in its owner's back yard.
The Forest Park community already has a block watch, but after the events on Sept 8, a community-wide alert was issued.
When the Kirk family arrived home on the night of Sept 8, they didn't get their usual welcome from their dog, Midnight. Midnight had been left outside to play and was found hanging from a swing set.
The Kirks said someone must have snuck into the yard and tied him up. When they got there, he was already dead.
Their neighbor said he bought dog treats just to feed Midnight. Now, neighbors are pulling their dogs a little closer, trying to determine who killed him.
The Forest Park Civic Association is asking anyone with information to call police at (614) 645-4545.
If caught, police said the killer would face animal cruelty charges, which could mean jail time.. If you have information on this case, please contact:
