A Rogers woman faces animal-cruelty charges after Benton County Sheriff's Office deputies seized two horses that were allegedly malnourished. Capt. Tom Brewster, public information deputy for the BCSO, said a report was received July 15 from neighbors complaining about a mare and filly that were significantly underfed and extremely malnourished.
A deputy went to the scene on Loony Road and talked with the neighbors. The deputy called for a veterinarian, who determined that the horses were undernourished and in need of care, Brewster said.
Deputies received a seizure warrant from prosecutors July 16, then removed the animals, Brewster said. "The mare was so weak that we had a difficult time getting her into a trailer because she would continue to collapse," Brewster said.
The animals are now under the care of a veterinarian. Brewster said the animals are improving.
Deputies located the owner of the animals, who was given a citation Wednesday for two counts of animal cruelty.
Francis J. Oliver, the horses ' owner, is scheduled to appearance in Rogers District Court on Sept. 12. References « More cases in Benton County, AR
