Police are asking the public's help after an 8-month old terrier-collie mix died from a bullet wound. The dog lived in a fenced yard at a junkyard on Weaver Road, said police Detective Sgt. Peter Van Gilst.

Its owners described the dog as "playful and friendly," according to a police statement.

Anyone with information should call (973) 728-2800 and ask for Detective Tyler Hicks. All calls will remain confidential.
