Horse shot and killed
Newark Valley, NY (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Jul 7, 2005
County: Tioga

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Joshua VanVorce's pony Brandy, was shot and killed in early July at a farm on Back West Creek Road in Newark Valley. Brandy is believed to have been shot at from the road, as she stood just outside her shed, 30 yards away.

"More than likely a .22 to the belly. So she suffered for many hours. They figure anywhere between 6 and 10 hours she suffered," says Peggy VanVorce.

No arrests have been made, but VanVorce believes one man is to blame. He was sent to prison for 2 weeks after trespassing on her property. She says killing her son's pony, was his payback.

"The guy has a 17 page wrapsheet of wherever he moves to, of harassing people," says Peggy VanVorce.

Police are still investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police in Owego at 687-3961.
