Christopher A. Hall, 23, and Mark S. Hall, 30, both of Frankton, Madison County, were arrested after they allegedly shot a cat about 30 times in a barn lot with a rifle and a sawed-off shotgun.
Madison County police Sgt Rob Olesky said, "I thought I was seeing some hunters, maybe rabbit hunters, who weren't wearing orange and shooting at something about 7 feet away. When I approached them, it became obvious they weren't hunters."
Both men face misdemeanor charges of cruelty to animals. Mark Hall also was charged with dealing in a sawed-off shotgun which is a felony.
Sgt Olesky said "They basically said it had been mean, attacked other cats and tried to scratch them. They acted almost like it wasn't a big deal."
The cat was shot 25 times with the rifle and five to six times with the shotgun.
The men were not jailed but their weapons were confiscated. References | Associated Press - Jan 2, 2001 |
