Cat shot in the leg
South Amboy, NJ (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Nov 30, 1999
County: Middlesex

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Salem, a black two year old cat with three legs was shot in the leg. Salem was hit by a car about a year ago when he escaped from the house and the injury resulted in him losing one of his legs. Orthopedic surgery is required so Salem can keep one of his three legs.

The surgery will cost approximately $750 so the New Jersey Animal Rights Alliance, Englishtown, is asking for donations to cover the cost of the surgery. If the cat has surgery, it would not have to be put down or become a two legged cat.

The owner, Sue Ann Precour, said the cat sneaked out of the house when she left for work around 8:00 a.m. on Friday. When she came home around 1:00 p.m., Salem was sitting on his back with his left front leg injured.

"At first I thought he broke his leg," Precour said. "Then I brought him to Dr Choisi, and he said that he had been shot with a .22-caliber bullet."

Precour said she will get a special collar that will give him a small shock every time he tries to leave the house.

Precour said she couldn't afford the surgery to save the cat's leg.

Donations to help Salem can be made to the Animal Rights Alliance, PO Box 174, Englishtown, NJ 07726.
