Oceanside police say someone shot two dogs with a pellet or BB gun on Sunday. One of the pets, a dog named Goofy, died.

The two dogs were in the backyard of their Cameo Street home. It is believed the incident happened between 2:30 and 4:00 p.m. while the family was away from their residence.

Sergeant Ken Gow said a two year old bichon poodle, Goofy, was found dead under a bed inside the house, he had entered home through a doggie door. There was a blood trail from the backyard to under the bed. The mixed breed, Fluffy, 2 years old is expected to recover from a wound above the left paw.

The three children at the home were very upset Goofy had been killed. There was a third dog at the residence, but that dog was not shot.

Apparently there was a dispute with a neighbor about the dogs and their barking. The neighbor involved in the dispute denied any involvement in the shooting.

Police say shooting the dogs is a violation of animal cruelty laws. Anyone with information please call officer Shawn Kelly at (760) 435-4900.
