A Boston terrier was found by a woman hunting mushrooms in northern Indiana buried up to its neck.

Jill Price, director of the Humane Society of Elkhart County, said "She got him out, wrapped him in a blanket and took him to ner niece's house."

A veterinarian said the dog had suffered a spinal fracture before someone buried it behind a vacant house north of Elkhart.

The dog has been named, Miracle. He has lost the use of his hind legs but is not in pain. It's not clear whether the spinal injury occurred as the result of an accident or from abuse.

The Humane Society may contact Purdue University to find out if surgery is an option.

Price said, "He's a very sweet dog. All he wants is to be loved."
