On Thanksgiving Day 2002 while driving to their grandmother's house for dinner, two sisters rescued a small puppy about four months old after it was thrown from a fast moving pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup cut them off as they got near an intersection. The pickup passed them and sped ahead.

"He cut us off, jumped in front of us," Raya said. "And then a little ways on we saw a dog flying out the window." The pickup was a Ford F-150, maroon color.

The puppy is a heeler mix. Juliet Raya, 22, and her sister both of Wichita stopped their vehicle. At first they didn't know whether to chase the truck or get the dog. They decided to stop and get the puppy which was bleeding from its leg injury.

They took the puppy to their grandmother's house where it ate a dinner of turkey, stuffing and gravy.

Since the Humane Society was closed on Thanksgiving, the women took the puppy to the Reno County Law Enforcement Center. The police notified the Human Society and brought the puppy there.

On Friday the blue merle puppy with pointy ears had recovered from the ordeal said the Humane Society spokeswoman Sally Shropshire.

Sally Shropshire said "It's a little girl, a darling litle dog." A person in the police department was interested in adopting the puppy, but the Humane Society said they had to hold it for a few days in case it might have escaped from a rightful owner and somehow got into the wrong hands.
