In a raid on Feb 27, the SPCA of Texas seized 33 dogs from property on County Road 352. The next day, eight more from that location were rescued, for a total of 41, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor said.

Terry Lorenzo Watts, 38, was charged with cruelty to animals in connection with this raid. He also remained in Anderson County Jail on bonds totaling $225,000. Watts' other charges include possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, assault on a public servant and others.

Authorities were investigating a possible disturbance at that location Saturday (Feb 27) morning and found the dogs. Taylor said they contacted the SPCA, who came Sunday and seized the animals after the sheriff's office obtained a seizure warrant. Two dead dogs were found at that location.

Most of those animals were taken to McKinney, also. A disposition hearing Friday will also determine their fate. Taylor said the animals at that location were in "deplorable" condition. He said the animals appeared to have injuries from bites, lacked adequate shelter, and looked skinny and malnourished.

It appears the pit bulls were being used to fight, Dave Garcia of the Texas SPCA said. Evidence such as scarring in the face and head indicated that, Garcia said.
