Walsh faces charges of cruelty to animals stemming from authorities reported January 27 discovery of as many as 61 severely neglected animals at his homeincluding 13 cats who had been deprived of wateralong with the rotting remains of three others. An acquaintance reportedly called authorities to the scene upon discovering "squalid" conditions at the residence. "Obviously these animals were uncared for and were treated inhumanely," a Lake County Health Department spokesperson told news sources.

Walsh ran a pet sitting business out of his home at 15 Miller Road and had asked an acquaintance to check on the animals when he was away. The woman became concerned with the condition of the house and called police.

Lake County Health Department animal control officers removed 45 sugar gliders, along with several tortoises, 13 cats and a dog from the house. Some of the gliders gave birth while they were in custody.
