He's not out the woods yet, but things are looking up for an abandoned puppy found this week with his muzzle wired shut.
After two hours of reconstructive surgery, the dog named Karl was awake and doing well, say doctors at Cobb Emergency Veterinary Clinic.
Head veterinary technician Ann Vercauteren said the dog's face looks much better after surgery and a lot of the swelling had gone down.
"He's looking real good, but it will be next week before we know for sure if he will make it," Vercauteren said.
Two men brought the abandoned dog to the clinic after they found it with its snout wrapped with wire and rubber bands. Veterinary surgeon Dr David Filer said the wire apparently kept him from barking.
The 4-month mixed breed puppy has steadily improved, but Filer said surgery was needed to restore blood flow to the pup's face. References- The Atlanta-Journal Constitution - Oct 29, 1999
