Two men charged in case which they allegedly cut off the legs of a goat "so it couldn't run away," before they slaughtered it for food, a Harris County prosector said.
Christopher Uche Anukwuem, 40, of the 1000 block of East Edgebrook and Samuel O. Osueke, 37, of the 6300 block of Culberson, were both charged with cruelty to an animal - a Class A misdemeanor.
They were also charged with unlawful possession of a weapon - a Class A misdemeanor - for allegedly using a machete to kill the goat. Maximum penalty for a Class A misdemeanor is one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.
Harris County prosecutor Robin Brown said the two men first chopped its legs off "so it couldn't run away. Then they slowly slaughtered it." She explained that killing a goat is legal if done in a humane way.
But, Brown said, "It is against the law to torture a goat." The suspects remained at large Monday after the filing of the animal cruelty charges. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
