Two whooping cranes found injured in south-central Kansas had been shot. Both are described as stable at Kansas State University's animal hospital. Dr. Jim Carpenter said that they have a good chance of surviving.
Barb Perkins of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said the cranes, two of an endangered species, were migrating from Canada to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge in Texas.
They were found Saturday near Quivira National Wildlife Refuge -- one with a broken wing, the other with an injured leg that had to be amputated.
The federal agency is seeking information on the shooting. References« Back to Search Results
