At approximately 1:15 p.m., a Leander officer was dispatched to Debbie Ann Drive in reference to a report of animal cruelty and deadly conduct. A 27-year-old male and others were walking north on Debbie Ann Drive accompanied by their dog, a large boxer or bull terrier. The dog was not restrained by a leash. As the pedestrians continued north, the dog went near the residence of a 40-year-old male.

The pedestrians heard what they thought to be three gun shots. Upon going to the area of the shots, the pedestrians reported seeing the suspect with a handgun pointed at the dog. The dog had been shot three times and died at a nearby animal hospital.

The suspect claimed that the dog had advanced on him in an aggressive manner and he defended himself out of fear. This case is under investigation.
