Steven Gillette has been charged with animal cruelty after allegedly shooting a neighbor's dog nine times with a .22-caliber rifle, leaving the animal bleeding and near death.
Steven Gillette, faces one count of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office.
The dog, a 12-year-old female red heeler/blue heeler cross named Rascal, is still alive, though in tough shape. She's being treated at nearby Veterinary Hospital.
The sheriff's deputy investigating the incident stated Gillette allegedly stood on his roof and fired at the dog from there.
Rascal has nine entry wounds, five exit wounds, "and four slugs still in her she is still alive, barely. They had to remove part of her intestinal tract. Another of the bullets went through her liver.
Dr. Tom Jakob, a veterinarian at the Hardaway clinic, said the wounds indicate the bullets hit the dog from above. The dog is doing well considering the injuries and has a chance of survival.
