Gerald Pellerin of Morrisonville, being charged with felony animal-cruelty for intentionally running over a dog with his lawn mower. Authorities stated Gerald Pellerin hit a Dalmatian that wandered onto his property while he was mowing his yard.

Police stated the dog's leg was severed and the animal was left bleeding on the grass. The 80-pound dog, named Tucker, belonged to a neighbor who had to have the 12-year-old pet euthanized.

Neighbors told police they heard the dog howling after it was injured and that Pellerin kept mowing the grass after the dog was hurt.

Pellerin will appear in the Town of Schuyler Falls Court September 29th.

Case Updates

Pellerin pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal cruelty on March 8 and agreed to pay a fine.

After his brief appearance before Peru Town Justice Chris Meyer, Pellerin agreed to pay a $1,000 fine and $2,500 restitution. The restitution money will be donated to the Elmore SPCA.

Before leaving court, Pellerin said he did not mean to hurt the dog and that he didnt realize what had happened.

"I heard a bark and turned around, and it was him on the ground," he said. Pellerin said hes glad the legal matter is finally resolved.

Lois Seymour said Pellerin did not try to ease her familys pain and took little responsibility for the accident.

"If he had acknowledged this, we probably wouldnt be here today," she said. The case has been adjourned at least four times while Clinton County Assistant District Attorney Brian Snell and Pellerins lawyer, Tim Blatchley, worked on a plea agreement.

"We accepted the terms not because they were what we wanted, but because it brings closure," Lois Seymour said. "Our familys loss will benefit other animals."
