The owner of a historic Tooele motel says a former tenant stabbed his dog to death with a sword. Garth Jones says he was awakened early Sunday at the Kirk Hotel to the sound of a thud and a yelp.

When he got up to see what happened, he says he found a man he recently evicted stabbing his dog Kabu repeatedly. Jones says the man then threatened him and chased after him, but Jones was able to run into his office and call police.

Police arrested the unidentified man and booked him into jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated animal cruelty. He has not yet been formally charged. Jones says he evicted the man last Wednesday when he failed to pay rent.
