A woman on a motorcycle called the Ohio Society for the Protection of Animals from her cell phone early Monday morning after witnessing someone in a rusty, white older model car throw five puppies from the moving vehicle. One of the pups ran into a nearby corn field and took some time to find.

A neighboring family held onto the puppies until SPA arrived. They were taken to Tri County Veterinary Clinic in Fostoria where they were immediately treated for tick and flea infestation. They were all cleaned up, vaccinated and were wormed. The puppies are estimated to be 7 weeks old.

Barb McGrady of the SPA said in a news release, "They are very lucky to be alive, and would most certainly have perished on this desolate, country road in the middle of nowhere."

The maximum penalty for dumping/abandoning any domesticated animal is $750 and up to 90 days in jail per animal, according to Kelly Seymour, Animal Cruelty Investigator of Sandusky County.

The SPA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals who dumped these puppies Monday morning. Additionally the pups are now up for adoption. To contact the Ohio SPA, call 419-334-2773 or visit their website at www.spaohio.org.
