A transient was arrested for animal neglect Tuesday afternoon when police discovered a U-Haul with 20 abused-looking cats and kittens inside.
Bette Lynne Fuchsel, 58, address unknown, was arrested when Sutherlin police stopped her on West Central Avenue for a traffic violation at about 3 p.m. and discovered the cats.
The cats were visibly thin and dehydrated with open sores, according to the police department. he cats were seized by Douglas County Animal Control and lodged at the animal shelter. Fuchsel was taken to the Douglas County jail.
