Macedon, NY (US)

County: Wayne

» Cindy A. Henry

A Wayne County couple is charged with five counts of animal cruelty, after investigators seized two dozen animals from their property. Investigators stated the house was filthy. And this isn't the first time they'd been called to this residence.

Animal Cruelty Investigator Mark Plyter, describing what he saw when he entered the  home of John and Cindy Henry statedthere were cat and dog feces and clothes all over.

Neighbors had complained about seeing skinny horses there before, and last July 2003 authorities had investigated. They planned to check back in the spring to see how the animals were doing, but more complaints prompted quicker action.

24 animals were taken from the home. 4 horses, 1 goat, 5 chickens and a duck were taken in and all of those animals were near death.

The Wayne County Humane Society took in 12 cats and dogs. They appear to be fine.

Investigators believe the remains of several animals are buried in the back yard of the home, located next to a newly developed housing project.

The couple is due back in court April 6, 2004.  The Health Department is also looking into the neighbors concerns.
