Criminal charges may be filed against a man accused of kicking a dog and breaking its leg. Montgomery County Police found a limping rat terrier named Sassy at Indiana Ford Trailer Court, Jan., 2004. It was reported a man was kicking a dog outside the mobile home.
Juan Goode�s wife, Richelle said her husband was mad and picked up the little dog and threw it across the room and it hit the baby bed and broke its leg.
Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County animal control picked up Sassy after Richelle relinquished custody.
X-ray's revealed Sassy�s right rear thighbone was broken into two pieces that were in an awkward position. The injury was several days old and Sassy needed surgery to place a pin in the bone.

Juan A. Goode, 38, faces one charge of cruelty to an animal, a class A misdemeanor, which could carry a prison sentence of up to one year. County Court Judge Peggy Lohorn appointed attorney Jim Bowlin as Goode�s public defender.
Montgomery County Police Officer Luther Blanton in January 2004 investigated a reported case of dog abuse at Goode�s rural Crawfordsville home. A neighbor told Blanton that Goode was kicking a small rat terrier outside the mobile home.
Goode�s wife, Richelle, told Blanton that Juan threw the dog, named Sassy. Sassy hit a baby bed on the way down, according to court records. Richelle denied her husband injured the dog during a later interview with the Journal Review.
The Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County removed the dog from the home with Richelle�s permission. X-rays revealed Sassy�s thigh bone was broken in two places and required surgery to pin it together.
A public call went out and more than $900 was donated immediately and more later. Extra money was used for other animals in need. Martha Osborne adopted Sassy to live with her in rural Montgomery County.
Goode was charged with animal cruelty and an arrest warrant was issued in February 2004, but never served. It was reissued in June and Goode�s initial hearing was Thursday. A bench trial is scheduled for November. | Source: Journal Review - Oct 10, 2005 |
