Sassy the cat's former owners have been sent home after spending four days in jail, and Sassy herself is back at the shelter after a failed adoption. Shannon and Carl Nelson of Roxana were released Monday from the Madison County Jail after serving four days of an eight-day sentence. They also face a fine of $347 each and two years probation after being found guilty of animal abuse.The 6-month-old cat, Sassy, was found in October by a neighbor with her collar embedded in her neck.
