Snohomish County sheriff's deputies seized 37 dogs and three cats many malnourished, dehydrated and living in their own waste and arrested a married couple in their 50s on suspicion of animal cruelty.
Authorities served a search warrant on the home, on 172nd Street Northeast, where the odor was so intense that several deputies became ill.
The couple were already on probation, and animal-control officers were having the probations revoked, a sheriff's spokeswoman said. The couple had been cited numerous times in the past for animal neglect and for violations of their kennel license.
The most-damaged animals are being treated by a veterinarian. Several dogs are staying at the North County Shelter in Arlington. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
