weak sentence = one star

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Puppy beaten to death
Providence, RI (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Sep 14, 2006
County: Providence

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Junior Alexander Guerrero

Case Updates: 2 update(s) available

A Providence landlord is accused of beating a tenant's puppy to death with a baseball bat.

Junior Guerrero was arraigned Sept 14 in Providence District Court on charges of malicious killing of an animal and marijuana possession. No plea was entered.

Guerrero, 27, is accused of killing the 2-month-old Labrador-pit bull mix on the night of Sept 13 outside his home on Plain Street. Guerrero's lawyer said the dog was vicious and his client was defending himself.

"The dog has a vicious propensity. I think that's clear. I don't think there's any question about that. I don't think there was ever any intent to see the death of the dog come about in any manner," defense lawyer Joseph Voccola said.

The dog's owner told news media the puppy was friendly, and she said she doesn't know why anyone would harm it.

Guerrero posted $2,500 bail and was released. He's due back in court in November.

Police allegedly found marijuana in Guerrero's car when they arrested him.
