A former husband and wife have been arrested and charged with sexually abusing children, according to police.

Denise Ann Roberts, 42, of Albany was arrested Thursday by an Albany police detective. She is charged with first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree sodomy, sexual assault of an animal and two counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor. The alleged crimes involve one victim and occurred between 1996 and 2004, according to the charges on file at the Linn County Courthouse.

The Linn County District Attorney's Office has charged Jesse Dale Roberts, 51, of Lebanon with 23 counts of sex crimes including sodomy, sexual abuse, incest, solicitation of sexual abuse and sexual assault of an animal. There are four victims and two dogs named in the charges, which stem from incidents that occurred between 1987 and this year.

The Robertses, who were divorced in 1998, are being held at the Linn County Jail. Security for getting out of jail pending trial was set at $100,000 for the woman and at $150,000 for the man.

Jesse Roberts is scheduled to appear in court June 5. Denise Roberts is scheduled to appear June 12.
