Dogs starved to death
Riverton, WY (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Apr 4, 2002
County: Fremont

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Amie Yagadich

Amie Yagadich, 26, is facing two counts of animal cruelty, each punishable by up to six months in jail and fines up to $750. Yagadich could also face up to 10 years in prison for felony property destruction for the condition of the apartment where she left the dogs.

Yagadich went on a drug binge and abandoned her dogs leaving them to starve to death.

Detective Sgt Milan Vinich of the Riverton Police Department said, "She neglected her dogs because she was strung out on methamphetamine. She said she cared more for drugs than anything else."

The police found the bodies of the two dogs which were a shar-pei and a mixed breed dead April 4 in her apartment. They were responding to a complaint of a bad smell in the apartment. Yagadich had been evicted in February.

Both bodies of the dogs were emaciated and decomposed, it appeared one dog had started to eat the other dog.

Witnesses confirm Yagadish's father picked her up and took her to his home in Wiggins, CO. Detective Sgt Vinich contacted the police there, who went to the residence on June 4 and took her into custody.

Yagadich is in the Lander jail, off drugs for a couple months. She is filled with remorse. Said, "She feels horrible about it, but at the time, the drug was more important than anything else."
