Puppies neglected
Everett, WA (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Jun 18, 2005
County: Snohomish

Disposition: Not Charged

Person of Interest: Woman

Firefighters called animal control after finding the puppies, when they responded to a small fire at the home.

Authorities say the young pitbulls were found crammed together in a crate, in filthy surroundings. Fire Captain Mike Millman says there was pet urine and feces all around the house.

Mel Jones is the manager of the PAWS shelter in Lynnwood, where the puppies were taken. She says the puppies are underfed, and look like they might need to be de-wormed. But otherwise, they're O-K.

Police and animal control officers questioned the woman who owned the puppies.

Authorities say she could be cited for animal neglect.

Officials say child protective services was notified, because a four-year-old lived in the apartment.
