An 18-year-old Ridgefield resident was arrested Friday night after he allegedly stabbed the family dog multiple times, killing it, officials said.

Christopher Curran, 18, was arrested late Friday and booked into the Clark County Jail on suspicion of first-degree animal cruelty.

Deputies with the Clark County Sheriff's Office were initially called to the house on Meuller Road just before 8 p.m. for a reported disturbance with an out-of-control subject.

Upon arrival, they were told by family members that Curran had allegedly stabbed the family dog to death, said Sgt. Fred Neiman, sheriff's office spokesman.

The dog, described as a medium-size black dog was stabbed multiple times with a folding, serrated knife, according to photos and reports taken by deputies, Neiman said.

Curran was detained during the investigation and later taken to PeaceHealth, Southwest Medical Center where he was treated for wounds on his hand. After being treated, he was booked into jail, Neiman said.

The prosecutor is reviewing the case.
