County: Washington

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: James G. Winters

State police reported the arrest of a man on animal cruelty charges after he shot his neighbor's dog earlier this week. The dog was treated and released.

State Police in Greenwich arrested James G. Winters on Tuesday for aggravated animal cruelty - a felony under Buster's Law - and misdemeanor issuing a false written statement.

Police said Winters, 48, was arrested following a police investigation into a report Monday that he had shot his neighbor's dog, because the animal allegedly entered onto his property on James Road. Police said the dog was treated and released from a veterinary clinic in Fair Haven, Vt.

Police foind that the dog was shot without justification, and Winters was additionally cited in connection to providing false written statements to police. He was issued an appearance ticket to appear in Hebron Town Court on March 12.

Police had reported earlier that the neighbors, Charles Aubin, 43, and Carol Aubin, 62, were each charged with misdemeanor animal cruelty on Monday, for neglecting two horses in their care which police found after they were dispatched to the residence Monday.

The Aubins were issued an appearance ticket to appear in Salem Town Court.
