Horse and dog found neglected at a home

After deputies received a call reporting a malnourished horse in Robert, they also discovered a neglected dog at the owner's residence, according to the Tangipahoa Sheriff's Office.

On Thursday, a deputy responded to the call and arrived at 24354 Michael Ln. to discover the horse tied up to a tree.

The horse appeared to be in desperate need of water, food and care, according to police.

During the investigation, Theresa Hoyt, 41, came out of her house screaming at the deputy.

Hoyt had been advised two months ago that she needed to properly care for the horse, the sheriff's office said.

Animal Control agents also seized a neglected dog from Hoyt's house. She was charged with cruelty to animals.
