A Palm Springs man is suspected of shooting a cat with an air rifle, resulting in the animal being euthanized.
Police said Tuesday, around 11:04 a.m., they received an animal cruelty call on the 1400 block of Fiesta Road, according to Sgt. Mike Kovaleff, of the Palm Springs Police Department.
"Officers arrived on scene and learned that a feline had sustained injuries as a result of being shot by a neighbor's high powered air rifle," added Kovaleff.
Ron Lee Conyne, 58 years old, was arrested for felony animal cruelty and taken to the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
The five year old cat was taken to a local veterinary hospital and then later transported to a veterinary specialist in Orange County. Kovaleff said the pellet that struck the animal had hit the spinal cord. The cat had to be euthanized as a result of its injuries.
He was released after posting $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 21, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. References |
