An Ariton man pleaded guilty to an animal cruelty charge this week, which involved the neglect of a pit bull dog.
Dale County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Harvey Mathis said Roger Jolly, 45, pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor count of animal cruelty on Wednesday. Mathis said Jolly received a 12-month suspended sentence. He was also ordered to pay a $250 fine and $233 in court costs.
Mathis said he arrested Jolly earlier this month after he seized the dog from Jolly's home.
Mathis said Jolly forfeited the dog, which is being kept at the Ozark Animal Shelter, and is up for adoption. He said the dog is in poor health, and would need nursing back to health if adopted.
