On Monday SCRAPS submitted a summons charging request to the Major Crimes Prosecutors Office for charges of animal cruelty against Randy Jensen, the owner of the starving pit bull named Jackson.

The first charge is felony Animal Cruelty in the 1st degree, which carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine. The second charge is Animal Cruelty in the 2nd degree. The charging request also included 1st degree animal cruelty and confinement in an unsafe manner by Randy Jensen's sister Talina Jensen, who was also caring for the dog.

According to the report filed by SCRAPS Animal Protection Officer Nicole Montano, on September 9th, Randy Jensen took Jackson for veterinary care because he had lost approximately 20 pounds and was not eating.

The report stated that Mr. Jensen did not have the money to perform the recommended workup but he did not want to euthanize him. Later Mr. Jensen brought Jackson to his sister Talina for care. The report articulates that Jackson continued to suffer substantial and unjustifiable physical pain.

On September 26th SCRAPS rushed Jackson for veterinary care immediately after they begun their investigation. The veterinarian recommended euthanizing Jackson to end his pain and suffering. Later veterinary tests supported the veterinarian's belief that Jackson's intestines had burst and he was septic at the time he was humanely euthanized.

"Jackson suffered for several weeks and the charges reflect the serious nature of the crimes committed against him," stated Lead Animal Protection Officer Nicole Montano.

"SCRAPS takes the issues of animal cruelty and neglect very seriously, and this was an extreme case of cruelty and neglect," continued Officer Montano.
