Alleged: Name Undisclosed

Police made the grisly find on Sunday after they were called to a home on Turnbull Street at Hamilton South, near Newcastle.

Officers dug up a portion of the backyard, but the body of the cat couldn't be located.

Police allege the attack on a neighbor's cat happened during a party held at the normally unoccupied house.

A 19-year-old was on Monday arrested at a house on Queens Road, at New Lambton, and charged with torturing, beating and seriously injuring an animal, and aggravated animal cruelty.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on October 11.
