Dog hanged, beaten with 2.x4
Fort Walton Beach, FL (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Aug 18, 2011
County: Okaloosa

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Brent Matthew Lukaszewski

A 41-year-old man has been charged with animal cruelty after he hanged his pet dog from a tree and beat it, police say.

Brent Matthew Lukaszewski was arrested Aug. 18 after he was seen hanging his pit bull, Gurdie, on a rope tied to a tree branch in his yard, according to the Fort Walton Beach Police Department.

Neighbors saw Lukaszewski use a rope to hang Gurdie by the neck until only the dog's rear feet touched the ground, according to the man's arrest report.

Lukaszewski then repeatedly struck it with a 2x4 to the head and body, the report said.

Lukaszewski only stopped hitting Gurdie when his neighbors told him they were calling the police.

The dog suffered multiple cuts on its head and body. The Panhandle Animal Welfare Society was notified and Gurdie was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment.

Lukaszewski was released from custody on $2,000 bond, according to his arrest report. He is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 20.
