An Albany man has been arrested, accused of animal cruelty.

Police say a patrol officer spotted Patrick Gray, 22, of 442 Spring Street pick up his 9 week-old pit bull mix by the leash and swing him 10 feet in the air around 7:15 a.m. Friday. They say the puppy landed on his head on the concrete sidewalk.

Police tell WNYT that Gray swung his dog with the leash around its neck above his head like a lasso. The dog injured his right leg and vomited several times. The puppy had minor injuries from the incident but is expected to fully recover. He's at the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

The puppy, Roscoe, is going to be adopted by Officer Adam Brace, a 2 year veteran of the department. Police tell WNYT that Brace was finishing up his shift at the Center Station and decided to adopt Roscoe after playing with him at the station.
