Dog locked in hot car Elyria, OH (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Jul 24, 2011 County: Lorain
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: Catherine Rodriguez
On a day that the heat index rose beyond 100 degrees, a 37-year-old Lorain woman was charged with animal cruelty after leaving her dog inside a car with the window barely open while she went inside Midway Mall, according to a police report.
A woman driving through the parking lot shortly before 1 p.m. spotted the dog inside, panting heavily on the floor of a car, police said. The dog was whimpering inside the car. A call to mall security led to a call to Elyria police, who responded to find the car unlocked.
Water was given to the dog, but it appeared too frightened to drink, police said.
Roughly 20 minutes later, Catherine Rodriguez came out of the mall to find people at her car trying to help her dog, police said. The officer cited Rodriguez for animal cruelty, and she was released with her dog. References |
