Memphis, TN (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Apr 23, 2011
County: Shelby

Charges: Felony CTA, Felony Non-CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Delfonzo Gladney

According to an affidavit, a Memphis man has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after he shot a neighborhood dog.

On April 23, 2011, 20-year-old Delfonzo Gladney was riding his bike on 1700 hundred block Pendleton Street when he came in contact with a female dog. Gladney pulled out a handgun and shot the dog once in the side.

Witnesses told police the dog was not aggressive toward Gladney in any way, it was only walking toward its owner's home.

After Gladney shot the dog, many people in the neighborhood were yelling at Gladney, asking "Why did you shoot that dog?"

Gladney responded, "[Expletive] that dog."

Police found Gladney in the Pendleton Apartments and arrested him after a short chase on foot. During the chase, police saw Gladney throw down a handgun.

Animal control says the dog will have to be euthanized because of its injuries.

Gladney gave police a statement of admission in the case.

Delfonzo Gladney was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, evading arrest and unlawful possession of a handgun.
