Dogs abandoned at home, one found dead
Lexington, NC (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jul 5, 2011
County: Davidson

Charges: Felony CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Jennifer Towery Hunt

A Lexington woman was charged Tuesday with felony killing an animal by starvation after authorities found a dead dog at a house.

Jennifer Towery Hunt of 225 Fisher St. was accused of moving out of her home at 1650 Ed Rickard Road and not providing any food or water to her dogs that she left behind, said Detective W.S. Thompson of the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

On July 5, Davidson County deputies went to the house on Ed Rickard Road to check on welfare of four dogs there, the sheriff's office said in a news release. They found a large dog dead in its dog house behind the home and three dogs in the home with no food or water.

The temperature in the house exceeded 95 degrees, and it didn't appear that anyone lived there, the sheriff's office said. Deputies later learned that Hunt owned the house.

Hunt has been released from custody with bond set at $500. She is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 31
