Three dogs found dead in cages
Anniston, AL (US)

Incident Date: Tuesday, Jun 14, 2011
County: Calhoun

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: woman

Anniston police Wednesday were investigating an animal cruelty case after an investigator discovered three dead dogs in a cage behind an Anniston home.

The landlord of a home in the 1800 block of Abbott Avenue alerted police and Animal Control to the deceased animals around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Investigator Bruce Butterworth responded to the call and found two dead pit bull terrier puppies and another full-grown pit bull, also dead, in a cage in the yard.

It appeared the dogs had no access to food or water in the cage, but investigators said they didn't know what exactly caused the animals to die. Anniston police Sgt. Fred Forsythe said the 29-year-old woman who lives at the house is the main suspect in the case.

Investigators planned to obtain a criminal warrant on the woman for allegedly committing cruelty to animals but declined to publicly release her name Wednesday.
