Dog kicked across floor, woman assaulted
Jackson, MI (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Jun 5, 2011
County: Jackson

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Man

A Jackson man arrested for domestic assault Sunday evening could face an additional charge of animal cruelty for kicking his girlfriend's dog.

Jackson police officers believe the 45-year-old man beat up his girlfriend around midnight Saturday in the 300 block of Steward Avenue, said Sgt. Tim Hibbard. On Sunday evening, the girlfriend went to Allegiance Health for treatment of her injuries, which are non-life threatening.

Officers spent a few hours early Sunday morning searching for the man but were unable to find him, Hibbard said. After learning the girlfriend went to the hospital, officers again search and found him.

The man was arrested for felony domestic assault and phone tampering. During the fight, the man kicked the girlfriend's dog across the floor, Hibbard said. Police will seek an animal cruelty charge from the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office.
