Two dogs stabbed, both die
Bay Minette, AL (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, May 7, 2011
County: Baldwin

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Darwin Holt Ware

A 42-year-old Bay Minette man remained in the Baldwin County Corrections Center last week for allegedly stabbing 2 dogs earlier this month. Both animals died, officials said.

Darwin Holt Ware is facing 2 counts of first-degree animal cruelty for the attacks on 2 bulldogs, one male and one female, according to Bay Minette police.

Capt. Clarence Crook said Ware was arrested after his girlfriend filed a complaint. According to the girlfriend, the couple had an argument and the woman told police she thinks Ware, who had been staying at her home in Bay Minette, may have taken out his anger on the dogs that she kept for her 19-year-old son, Crook said. Ware also has an Eight Mile address, according to Crook.

The incident happened late May 7 or early May 8, he said. The woman reported seeing Ware go into the backyard of the her home, heard the dogs yelping and thought he was beating them, Crook said. He came back into the house with blood on his hands, according to Crook.

The dogs were found to have suffered one stab wound each. There were taken to a local veterinary office, where they died, Crook said.

Ware's bail was set at $1,500 for each cruelty count, but he was being held without bail for violating his probation on a Mobile County case, Crook said. Information on that case was unavailable.
