Kitten found with ears cut off
Pasco, WA (US)

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

KEPR uncovered the case of an abused kitten found in Pasco with her ears cut off. And as if that's not alarming enough, animal control officers tell Action News, this is not the first case of this type of cruelty. We do want to warn you, some of the images in the video posted are graphic.

Five week old "Kitala" is still a bit shaky after having her ears cut off.

An animal control officer picked her up near an east Pasco home Friday night.

"You can't just cut your cat's ears off, it's cruel. The cat is in great health other than its ears being severed off," says Jenny McCombs with the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter.

And this isn't the first time animal control officers have encountered this kind of cruelty. In March, they found "Shy-Boy," a boxer pup with his ears also cut. Boxers sometimes have their ears surgically shaped. But one of Shy-Boy's ears was cut all the way off.

This happened to both of Kitala's ears, and in one ear she may have partial hearing loss. Other than that, the vet says Kitala is expected to be okay.

She'll be up for adoption once she's finished healing. Until then, she'll be staying with the man who saved her.

"The officer fell in love with the little cat, so he's taking it home and will be caring for it until it gets better," says McCombs

Animal control says it's investigating this as an animal cruelty case and are looking for leads.

"We're asking for any help that anyone can possibly give," says McCombs.

And it's a trend they want to stop now before another animal suffers like Kitala.

The puppy whose ears were chopped off in March was quickly adopted. But officials tell KEPR he later died of an unrelated illness.
