The defendant stabbed his dog and let bleed to death.

Un Juzgado de Cáceres ha condenado a nueve meses de prisión y dos años y medio de inhabilitación "para el ejercicio de profesión, oficio o comercio que tenga relación con los animales" a un hombre por apuñalar a un perro en Navas del Madroño (Cáceres) y dejar que muriera desangrado.

El caso tuvo lugar en junio de 2009 y el juicio se ha celebrado el pasado miércoles 4 de mayo en Cáceres, en el que la Federación de Protectoras de Animales de Extremadura (Fepaex) estaba personada como acusación particular. Según informa Fepaex en nota de prensa, el suceso tuvo lugar en la madrugada del 20 de junio de 2009, cuando el acusado, que responde a las iniciales D.C.J. "se dirigió al perro de su propiedad de la raza Cocker, al que colocó un bozal para impedirle cualquier defensa, y con un arma blanca le apuñaló dos veces en el costado derecho y dos veces en el costado izquierdo".

Posteriormente, el hombre echó a la calle al animal, de manera que "fue desangrándose a causa de las heridas sin poder ladrar ni quejarse de dolor porque tenía el bozal puesto" por lo que su agonía se prolongó durante varias horas hasta que "finalmente murió en presencia de los agentes de la Guardia Civil, que ya no pudieron hacer nada para salvarle la vida."
Delito de maltrato a animales domésticos

Por este suceso, un Juzgado de Cáceres ha condenado a este individuo, según consta en la sentencia remitida por Fepaex, a D.C.J. como "autor responsable conforme al art. 28 del Código Penal de un delito de maltrato a animales domésticos", a la pena de nueve meses de prisión e inhabilitación especial "para el derecho de sufragio pasivo durante el tiempo de la condena". También le condena a "dos años y seis meses de inhabilitación especial para el ejercicio de profesión, oficio o comercio que tenga relación con los animales".

Ante esta sentencia, Fepaex ha asegurado que no pueden "estar contentos" o "satisfechos ante este fallo", ya que la justicia "le prohíbe al acusado durante dos años y medio hacer algo que nunca había hecho, es decir, trabajar, comerciar o lucrarse con animales", pero sin embargo "no le prohíbe tener otro animal de compañía de por vida que para Fepaex sería lo justo".

"Como siempre, el único consuelo que nos queda son los antecedentes penales que ahora sí tiene D.C.J.", que en la actualidad reside en Garrovillas (Cáceres), ha destacado Fepaex, quien ha apuntado que todavía "queda un largo camino por recorrer para terminar con el maltrato de nuestros animales".
