While the world stared at the photos of Patrick in shock and horror, another dog was starving behind the locked door of an apartment.
Caroline was discovered in abandoned apartment just days after Patrick was found in the trash chute.
Caroline's story has not swept across the world like Patrick's story, but hers is painful and worthy none-the-less.
When authorities investigated a potential abuse case at an apartment complex, they found Caroline -- so thin and weak that she could barely move.
Caroline wasn't alone.
She had a canine companion -- but he did not survive. He was discovered with his head lying in an empty food dish -- he died trying to find sustenance where there was none.
Somehow, Caroline had survived the endless days without food and water-her will to survive just strong enough to help her fend off death until rescuers arrived.
Caroline's eyes show her despair - her loss of hope after surviving day after day behind the locked door of the apartment.
After her discovery, the emaciated dog was taken in by Noahs Arks Rescue where she is being treated for starvation, dehydration, parasites and anemia.
Though her eyes are wide and seemingly haunted by what she has survived, her rescuers describe her as sweet and forgiving.
She is slowly gaining weight, up 4 lbs according to a recent update, and her blood panels are normalizing. Perhaps the best news of all?
She has regained a bounce to her step -- a sign that she is not only feeling better, but that she is happier.
Never again will this beautiful dog have to worry about being abandoned -- left to die alone. Noahs Arks Rescue has made it their mission to find Sweet Caroline a loving forever family once she is well enough to be adopted.
