Dog abandoned in motel room
Lebanon, NJ (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Mar 30, 2011
County: Hunterdon

Disposition: Alleged

Abuser names unreleased

The township animal control officer took custody of "Boomer," a dog abandoned in a room at the Fountain Motel on Route 22.

The condition of the room was described as "deplorable," with no food and very little water for the dog, police reported today.

Police said that Patrolman John Tiger was called late Wednesday afternoon to the motel, where management explained that a resident had not been in his room for three days, leaving his dog there unattended. Tiger spoke to other residents at the motel, who confirmed that the resident had not been in his room for three days. They advised that "Boomer" is nice but is mistreated by its owner.

Officers also learned that the door to the room cannot be secured and therefore the room could be entered by anyone. Police called Animal Control Officer Doug Rohl, who responded and took custody of the dog. He is investigating and charges for animal cruelty are pending.
