3 dead dogs found in Sheriff Deputy's home
Georgetown, SC (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Mar 4, 2011
County: Georgetown

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged:
» William Baxley
» Miranda Baxley

A Georgetown County deputy and his wife have been charged with cruelty to animals after three dead dogs were found at their residence, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Spokesman Russell Goodale said Deputy William Baxley and his wife, Miranda, were arrested Wednesday.

On March 4, the Sheriff's Office received a complaint about three dead dogs at a residence on Dennis Drive.

Deputies found the three deceased animals in fenced kennels in various stages of decomposition, Goodale states. They also found a female lab with nine puppies on the porch of the residence.

The officers were unable to locate anyone at the residence that day.

Goodale said the investigation revealed the dogs belonged to the Baxleys.

Deputy Baxley was placed on Administrative Duty pending an internal investigation.

He has now been placed on Administrative Leave without pay.

Both he and his wife have been charged with four counts of Cruelty to Animals under the County Ordnance.

Robbery Charge

In an unrelated incident, Miranda Baxley has been charged with Grand Larceny greater than $10,000 in a reported robbery that occurred in December at Cash USA on North Fraser Street next to Food Lion.

Police say Mrs. Baxley was an employee and reported the business had been robbed.

Capt. Nelson Brown said Mrs. Baxley reported more than 100 customers had made payments on the day she reported the robbery.

He said when investigators reviewed security camera video they saw less than half that number had been in the business.

Brown said Mrs. Baxley had allegedly made fake loans and had pocketed the money and made up the robbery story in an attempt to cover up the theft.

When it was discovered her husband was a deputy, the case was turned over to SLED to investigate.
