Man accused of making 'cat bombs'
Hedgesville, WV (US)

Incident Date: Monday, Feb 28, 2011
County: Berkeley

Charges: Felony Non-CTA
Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Brian Michae Bailey

A Berkeley County man is accused of manufacturing what he called "cat bombs," bottled concoctions of toilet bowl cleaner and aluminum foil, to scare stray felines away from his residence.

Brian Michael Bailey, 42, of 231 Gordon Drive, Hedgesville, W.Va., was arraigned Tuesday by Berkeley County Magistrate Harry L. Snow on one felony count of illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive material or incendiary devices, according to magistrate court records.

Bailey was charged Monday by West Virginia State Police Cpl. L.A. Faircloth after Trooper N.K. Campbell received several complaints about Bailey allegedly making some type of explosive device at his home, according to court records.

At the residence, police found three plastic bottles that had been exploded, several pieces of aluminum foil balls and some liquid inside one of the soda bottles, according to court records.

Inside the home, police discovered a bottle of The Works toilet bowl cleaner in his trash can and another bottle of the cleaner on a counter, according to court records.

In a handwritten statement, Bailey told police that he made two of the "cat bombs" Monday and several more in the past couple of days, according to court records.

Bailey indicated that he put balls of aluminum foil in the bottles, added the toilet bowl cleaner and then threw the chemical bombs that he made out the back door of his home at stray cats to scare them away with the explosion that followed, according to court records.
